The major of Spanish Philology was established in 1961. The beginning of a separate course on methodology of the Spanish language was set in 1987 with the appointment of the first lecturer in this discipline, Radiana Drinova. From 1965 to 1987, students attended the course on methodology of the French language, taught by Prof. Pavel Patev. In 1995, the course was expanded and renamed into a course on methodology of Ibero-Romance languages. Since 2019, the lecturer in this discipline has been Asst. Michal Pavlov.
