A forum held by the Department of Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching
On 22 October, a scientific seminar and methodological workshop on the project "Education as a Skill for Planning the Future. Key Conditions for Success" was held in Hall 1 of Sofia University, led by prof. Magdalena Kostova-Panayotova, DSc from the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology. The scientific event of the Department of "Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching" was attended by colleagues from the department and other depatments, students from the "Simeon Radev" Secondary Language School in Pernik, principals and teachers from schools in the capital - 35 Secondary Language School, 125 Secondary School "Boyan Penev", 73 Secondary School, National Secondary School of Music, 133 Secondary School, 31 Secondary Language School, as well as colleagues from New Bulgarian University, many students from the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology.

Chief assist. prof. Gloria Bakardzhieva, PhD spoke about the study of foreign languages in classical antiquity.

Assoc. prof. Elena Savova, PhD focused on the reasons why modern languages are studied from the Middle Ages to the present day. She paid special attention to the study of French during the Bulgarian Renaissance, researched by Prof. Dimitar Vesselinov, DSc.

Doctoral student Eliza Kirilova presented the results of a survey on the topic of the seminar, after which students from the Simeon Radev Secondary Foreign Language School, Pernik, shared their experiences in learning foreign languages, as well as their views on financial literacy and emotional intelligence.
Prof. Magdalena Kostova-Panayotova, DSc, Head of the Department of Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching , presented the results of a survey with students from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

Assoc. prof. Petar Todorov, PhD spoke about the opinions of Bulgarian teachers regarding their satisfaction with both their work and the remuneration they receive for it.

After the seminar, a round table discussion was held. The first speaker was Prof. Dimitar Vesselinov, DSc, who shared his experience in the field of foreign language teaching, emphasizing contemporary trends in linguodidactology and empruntology, as well as the relationship between trade unions and schools in the country to achieve higher teacher satisfaction.

Foreign language teachers, students and pupils took part in the discussions that followed. Opinions were expressed for and against artificial intelligence, the importance of financial literacy for young people, etc.
Prof. Magdalena Panayotova, DSc, closed the forum by concluding that in such projects the connection between foreign language teaching and the so-called "horizontal skills" is of crucial importance as it helps activate the dialogue between secondary and higher education.
